MARCHELLE Old Vine Zinfandel 2020

Aromatic spice notes pervade from a blend of Zinfandel, Carignan, Flame Tokay, Black Prince, and Mission grapes, evoking an ethereal essence. On the palate, one experiences a smoothness reminiscent of Pinot Noir, accompanied by layers of plum, dark cherry, and spicy pumpkin flavors. These are delicately balanced by just the right amount of spice, reaffirming the wine’s Zinfandel character.

In the 2020 vintage, characterized by exceptional dryness, the ancient vines benefited from the ability to access water without succumbing to the usual disease pressures often seen in old-vine head-trained, spur-pruned vines. The inclusion of traditional table grapes, treated in a carbonic maceration style, contributed acidity and balance to the final wine.
