The name Chatelier is a tribute to the most distant origins of cognac. The first eau-de-vie of cognac were created on the west coast of its vineyards, historically it was local monks who developed the art of distillation.
In 1166, one of the oldest Cistercian monasteries was founded in the heart of the island, the Ile de Re. Its name: l’Abbaye des Chateliers.
This unique place was for a long time the epicentre of the distillation of local wines by these learned monks.
This is also how Alexandre Gabriel created Claude Chatelier Cognac in 1989.
Claude Chatelier cognacs are distilled in small copper pot stills of 25 hectolitres according to ancient, traditional in-house methods.
The cognac matures slowly in small French oak barrels in cool, damp cellars with beaten earth floors that promote its subtle transformation. The time-honoured mixing art of the cellar master gives this cognac its excellent balance.
The Claude Chatelier VSOP is aged for over 8 years in limousine oak barrels.
