The Laird

As one of the most revered sites in the Barossa Valley, The Laird vineyard effortlessly showcases the power, complexity and longevity of Barossa shiraz.

In Scottish terminology, The Laird refers to the Lord of the Manor. This south facing vineyard, nestled in the ridge between Seppeltsfield and Marananga and planted in 1958, demonstrates its unique soil structure, micro-climate and distinctive clone resulting in a wine of extraordinary power and restraint.

Meticulously hand-tended, the five-acre vineyard yields low quantities of small, concentrated berries, resulting in a powerful and luxurious wine, with a dense, complex and alluring palate that can be cellared for decades in ones collection of the finest wines of the world.

It’s an iconic wine that has retained its soul and purpose over the years, decisive, distinct, potent and precise, haunting and evocative’ –98 points, The Wine Advocate

‘A savory, powerful wine with a with a high level of sophistication’97 points,JamesSuckling.com

Vintage notes:

Current Vintage 2020: Strong winds at flowering at the beginning of the growing season reduced berry and bunch count in many vineyards. The difficult seasonal conditions continued up to harvest- a dry winter and spring were followed by very hot and dry December and January. 2020 was a difficult season to manage for both grower and winemaker with yields much lower than anticipated. Older vineyards with deeper roots remained steadfast under these conditions and produced small volumes of deeply concentrated wines from the lower yields. While the yields have been small, the overall quality has created deeply colored and textured wines that resonate their place of origin.
