The ForebearAn enduring legacy of one of the Barossa Valleys pioneering grape growing families lives on in this circa1850’s planted shiraz vineyard.
The Forebear is named in honour of those who came before, our ancestors, whose custodianship, vision and values protected and preserved these heritage vines.
This single vineyard Shiraz is a testament to ancient soils and the sustainable viticultural practices of generations of Barossa farmers.
Medium to full weight with lifted red fruit aromatics, balanced by the nuanced influence of restrained French barrique maturation. A timeless addition to any collection, this Shiraz promises to gracefully evolve and captivate for many years to come.

‘So much concentration and old-vine character that is built for the ages. Exceptional’ –98 points, JamesSuckling.com

‘A monumental wine, it needs space and quiet to be able to absorb the layers of complexity and undulating waves of flavor through the finish’ – 98 points, The Wine Advocate

Vintage Notes:

Current Vintage 2020: Strong winds at flowering at the beginning of the growing season reduced berry and bunch count in many vineyards. The difficult seasonal conditions continued up to harvest- a dry winter and spring were followed by very hot and dry December and January. 2020 was a difficult season to manage for both grower and winemaker with yields much lower than anticipated. Older vineyards with deeper roots remained steadfast under these conditions and produced small volumes of deeply concentrated wines from the lower yields. While the yields have been small, the overall quality has created deeply coloured and textured wines that resonate their place of origin.
