2020 Greenock Creek Block Shiraz 750ml

Planted along the creek in the 1960s, these vines thrive in sandy brown loam layered over grey clay. This unique soil composition imparts the wine with rich fruit intensity and silky, mouth-coating tannins. The flavour profile leans towards mulberries and blueberries, complemented by clay-driven hints of anise and milk chocolate.

Originally discontinued in 2005, this single-block wine was revived in 2017. Although the creek-side location comes with challenges, it remains a captivating site with a rich history and the potential to produce outstanding, character-filled wines. We restructured the trellising to improve canopy management and achieve a refined balanceresults were proud of.

Matured for 18 months in French oakbeginning in new barrels from A.P. John, followed by a year in a one-year-old Sylvain barrelthe 2020 Creek Block showcases a complex bouquet of leafy bramble fruits, plum, sweet liquorice, milk chocolate, earth, and tar. From the first sip, it delivers a quintessential Barossa experience, seamlessly blending fresh mulberries, blueberries, cherries, and fruitcake with earthy notes, spice, and creamy oak. The palate glides on fine, malty tannins with cinnamon-sugar nuances, finishing long and effortlessly smooth.

Pure and opulent yet showing clarity and a vivid line despite its proportions. Cassis and macerated plums, layered spice, licorice, dark chocolate, and earth. Tight, kinetic tannins and a toothsome finish that shows surprising balance for the level of horsepower within. Impressive stuff”
