The Jaensch Block incorporates two vineyards that lie adjacent along a high ridge at Moppa in the northwestern corner of the Barossa at an altitude of 320 340 meters above sea level. The vineyard geology is defined by shallow clay topsoils over a layer of quartz and ironstone deposits. At one of highest elevations in the Barossa Valley, the vineyard benefits from gully breezes that cool the canopy during harvest, slowing ripening and producing wines more in the blue fruit flavour spectrum with silky tannin and gamey/meaty undertones.
This is a deeply coloured, powerful wine with great flavour drive down the palate. The silken tannins make the wine approachable in youth, but we would expect the wine to mature for 15 25 years. Approximately 6,000 bottles made.
