In 1997, Chteau Mouton Rothschild experienced unique climatic conditions. The year began with dry and warm weather, significantly raising average temperatures from late January onwards, prompting early vine bud formation in early March. Flowering occurred evenly across varieties, with mid-flowering occurring between May 20th and 24th. Mid-veraison followed between July 24th and August 1st, about 15 days earlier than usual but varying by grape type. August was unusually hot and humid, resembling tropical conditions with three days of 100% humidity. Vigilant pest and disease management ensured the crop remained in excellent condition despite these challenges, although the ripening process was temporarily halted due to uneven grape ripening. Ideal weather in September ultimately allowed for a high-quality harvest.
