This wine is a mix of 60% Carignan from Contra Costa County and 40% Grenache from Clarksburg. Both types of grapes were destemmed and fermented separately in open-top fermenters. The Carignan comes from very old vines in sandy soil and was aged in large French barrels for 11 months, giving it brambly fruit and structure. The Grenache, from younger vines, aged in neutral French oak barrels for 11 months, adding watermelon candy and a playful touch. Together, they create a blend reminiscent of homemade boysenberry crumble.
