2021 KOOMILYA JC Block Shiraz 750ml

This single-block Shiraz comes from 49-year-old vines rooted in ancient dark grey slaty siltstone enriched with ironstone rubble, situated on a southwest-facing slope at 120m elevation. Named after Jill Cant, the former owner, the JC Block was the first vineyard block Stephen worked with as Chief Red Winemaker at Hardys.

“A native ferment with 16 days on skins, aged in a 2300L oak vat. The Koomilya Shiraz trio are truly unique, each one capturing the spirit of the vineyard. This particular bottle stands out as the vintage pick. While each block wine has its distinct character, this one brings together the succulence of the DC and the lightness of the GT, yet with more spice and intensity than either. Deep and complex, it evokes dusky red fruits, cherry, iron, licorice, tar, and dried herbs, all supported by fine, grapey tannins.
