The Highlander Inn has several whisky labels, or sub-labels, being The Highlander Inn, Oiishi Wisukii, and Maggie’s Collection. Each are unique but all carry the important seal of being picked byTatsuya Minagawa.
One of Scotlands quirkiest hotels and bars, the Highlander Inn is actually based in the village of Craigellachie, part of the Speyside region, and is owned and operated by a Japanese man named Tatsuya Minagawa. The building itself has roots dating back to the 1880s and part of it was converted into a bar in the 1960s. Tatsuya worked at the hotel bar from 2005 to 2012 as the bar manager and started in the same year they launched their line of independent bottlings. Eventually Tatsuya was poached by Suntory to work as one of their whisky ambassadors before leaving in 2015 and returning to his beloved former workplace, purchasing it from his old boss, Duncan Elphick.
